この度てつおのガラージ（日光）とHIGURE17-15cas（東京） は落合多武の企画でアン・イース トマンの　We Passed the Setting Sun, (沈んでゆく太陽を通り過ぎた)展を開催します。このタイトルはエミリー・ディキンソンのある詩の中からの断片を使っています。イーストマンの活動はアート作品の制作の他に日光でのトレッドソン別邸プロジェクトにおける　展覧会企画、 主に海外のアーティストを招待するアーティスト・インレジデンス運営、若い日本人アーティストとのワークショップなど 領域横断的でまた文化人類学的な方法を用います。本展は東京の日暮里にあるHIGURE17-15cas で始まり内容を変化させ日光のてつおのガラージに移動する連続的で変則的な展示になります。日暮里では映像作品と新聞紙、鏡、ガラス、木を組み合わせた小さな立体作品を展示、日光では同じ方法論を応用して、てつおのガラージの建物全体を使うサイトスペシフィックな展示になります。天動説が地動説に覆された後 、いまだ日は沈み、昇る、リアリズムについて、または看板についてやノスタルジックの限度についてを考察する展覧会になる予定です。

アン・イーストマンは１９７３年にサンフランシスコで生まれ　スミス大学で文化人類学を学んだ後、イェール大学で彫刻及び映像を専攻しました。これまでニューヨーク、チューリヒ、バーゼル、ウィーンなどで個展を開催しました。近年では２０１９年には昆明ビエンナーレ（中国）に参加、グリーンギャラリー、ミルウォーキー　（スティーブン・ピピンとの２人展） ２０１６年、シチュエーションズ、ニューヨーク（コリン・ジョーンズとの２人展）２０１７年などがあります。

Tetsuo’s Garage, Nikko and HIGURE17-15cas, Tokyo are pleased to present We Passed the Setting Sun, a solo exhibition by Anne Eastman.  This exhibition, organized by Tam Ochiai,  takes its title from a fragment of an Emily Dickinson poem.  Eastman’s work is inter-disciplinary and her practice extends beyond art-making to include the Troedsson Villa Project, where in addition to inviting artists to reside and make work in Nikko, she organizes exhibitions and workshops in collaboration with members of the art community in Japan. Her exhibition will begin at HIGURE17-15 cas, Tokyo with a video work and several small sculptural pieces combining fragments of newspaper with paint, wood, glass and mirror and continue in Nikko, where she applies a similar approach to a site specific installation at Tetsuo’s Garage, an alternative art space she started in 2017.  The show in Nikko will also incorporate events and screenings organized ad hoc.
Geocentric theory was superseded by Heliocentric theory and yet the Sun continued setting and rising; this exhibition represents a kind of realism, signboard, and the limit of nostalgia.

Anne Eastman was born in 1973 in San Francisco, CA and lives and works in New York.  After studying anthropology at Smith College she received her MFA in Sculpture from Yale School of Art. She has had solo-exhibitions in New York, Zurich, Basel and Vienna and more recently presented her work in the Kunming Biennial in Yunnan, China, in 2019 and at two person shows at Green Gallery in Milwaukee, WI (with Steven Pippin) in 2016, and Situations, New York (with Corrine Jones) in 2017.
