私たちが誰かに自分を説明しようとするとき、同時に別のものをさらけ出します。それは、自分が望むように理解されたいという願いです。今回のメグリカフェでのサテライトプロジェクトでは、アーティスト自身が、自らの考えで作品を選び、展示しています。これは、アン・イーストマンとタム・オチアイが作品を選び、ある共有された存在の状態についての物語を提示したメイン展「ズレタ」とは、まったく異なる試みです。この「ズレタ」サテライトでは、山根一晃と松本奈々の両氏が、どの作品を誰が制作したのかを示すタイトルや表示を付けず、絵画、アッサンブラージュ彫刻、印刷物を並べ、カフェの棚に横並びに配置しました。それは、興味を持つかもしれないカフェの訪問者へのささやかな贈り物であり、想像上のやり取りでもあります。
私たちは他者を見、また見られていますが、他者が私たちをどのように見ているかは見ることができません。そしてそれは、もちろん、決して固定されたものではありません。山々を見つめるとき、私たちは彼らがこちらを見返していると想像するでしょうか。
トレッドソン別邸は、日光でアン・イーストマンによって企画・運営されているアートプロジェクトです。現在、The Pawnbroker’s Museumで開催している展覧会「ずれた」の関連展示として、本会場前のmeguriカフェにおいて、松本菜々、山根一晃による「ずれた サテライト」を開催いたします。The Pawnbroker’s Museumでの展覧会「ずれた」とともに御高覧ください。
When we try to explain ourselves to someone, we reveal something else, our desire to be understood as we want ourselves to be. For this satellite project at Meguri Cafe, the artists have selected and presented their own work by their own design, a very different endeavor from the main exhibition, Zureta, where the pieces were chosen by Anne Eastman and Tam Ochiai to tell a story about a shared state of being. In this Zureta satellite, artists Yamane Kazuaki and Nana Matsumoto have installed their pieces without titles or any indication of which artist made which, arranging paintings, assemblage sculptures, and printed matter side by side on the shelves as an offering to cafe goers who might take interest, and as an imagined exchange.
We are seen and we see others, but we cannot see how others see us, which is, of course, never fixed. When we gaze at the mountains, do we imagine them gazing back?
Troedsson Villa is an art project planned and operated in Nikko by Anne Eastman. As a related exhibition to Zureta, currently on view at The Pawnbroker’s Museum, we are presenting Zureta Satellite by Nana Matsumoto and Kazuaki Yamane at Meguri Cafe, located in front of the main venue.
